How to Connect Dynamics 365 Business Central 2019 Release Wave 2 to Visual Studio Code (MSDYN365BC)

Recently I got many queries from MSDYN365BC developers which are having trouble connecting to the visual studio to 2019 wave 2 release. So below are the steps which will help to connect Visual studio code.

So, we will start with the opening the visual studio code. Before doing the setup, I will recommend downloading the latest Al Language.

For this go to Extension (Ctrl + Shift + X) in Visual Studio Code and search for AL language and reopen Visual Studio Code.

Here we are ready for our first extension in Microsoft Dynamics Business Central on premises 2019 Wave 2 Release.

We will open the command pallet by pressing the shortcut key Ctrl+Shift+P and select AL:Go!, as soon as we hit enter it will ask us for the Folder Name and path, for my reference I am giving it MSDYN365BCWave2 you can use different Name as per your convenience and enter.

In the next step it will ask for the Target Platform, which is 4.0 Business Central 2019 wave 2, you will be getting different option for connecting to different release of Business Central.

After you select the Target platform you have to select hte Server which is Sanbox or Local Server, as we are configuring the MSDYN365BC on Prem we will select Local server Lauch.json file will be opened, which will have all the default setting if you have changed the port then you must specify the Development port of the service you have configured.

You can select authentication as “Windows” if needed.

so we have completed the setup and all set to download symbols for that go to Command Pallet (Ctrl+Shift+P) Select AL: Download Symbols. You wil get the output as all reference symbols has been downloaded.

And here you are all set to go for your first Extension.

Install Microsoft Dynamics Business Central on premises 2019 Wave 2 Release

I have described in my previous post regarding the Download Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2019 Wave2.The 2019 release wave 2 is the first version that does not include the classic development environment (also known as C/SIDE).

This blog will describe detailed steps for installing Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2019 Wave2. The installation is simple and below are the steps for the same.

  • Go to Download Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2019 Wave2 Product Installation and Run Setup.exe as Administrator. Click on Next when you see the welcome screen for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Setup. Choose I accept for License Terms.
  • You will be asked 3 options as shown below, Choose Advanced Installation option as we are installing it on Local machine.
  • We will choose installation option so that we can select the components which needs to be installed.
  • I have chosen below mentioned option which are necessary for the installation.
  • We can apply the default settings, but as developer we have different versions of Dynamics NAV /Business Central installed on our machine. So, I will suggest giving different PORT.For my understanding i will renumber the port.
  • Installation will be completed, 3 components will be installed in your machine
  • When you click on Business Central web client, it will open the web client screen.

This was the complete installation steps.Now we have configured Morden Client, we will configure the VsCode for the developer as well in my next blog.

Get overview of all business features

The Navigation structure is very important for all the users.Finding functionality through Navigation has been made simpler then before.

From the search results in the Tell Me window, there is a link to Role Explorer in case users want to explore in a visual feature overview.

Identify the company by a badge

Company Badge functionality is used to identify one company from another that you work in daily basis. when you have multiple tabs or popped-out windows open or when you are working with multiple companies on a daily basis.

Company Badge can be configured from the Company Information as shown in the below screen shot.

Personalize actions on your Role Center

Now you can move you daily task or the most commonly used data to the role centre,  without  much pain as release of wave 2 have provided personalisation in the navigation menu.

  • Moving menu links to another position within the same group or a different group or subgroup.
  • Moving menu groups to another position.
  • Hiding menu links or entire groups.
  • Clearing your personalization, effectively returning the Role Center to its original navigation menu layout.

To personalise the page you can click on Settings> personalize (right hand corner). once the personalization has been done you can click DONE.

The 2019 release wave 2 release provide powerful filtering capabilities on pages as well as reports.

You can now save filters in the filter pane as a list view with a recognizable name, such as “Items I own.”

  • Save a new list view with custom filters on specific fields, on totals, and other calculated fields.
  • Fine-tune and perfect your views over time by saving changes to them.
  • Clone any system view by saving a personal copy that you can modify.
  • Easily rename and remove personal views.
  • Apply the full spectrum of filter expressions, ranges, and filter tokens (such as %Items with Quantity) to dynamically filter to the right data. 
  • Quickly switch between different views of a list in the filter pane or from the command menu, no matter how you accessed that page.

Multitask across multiple pages

This functionality allows users to pop out a card or document into a smaller, connected window. You do this by choosing the Open this page in a new window button in the upper-right corner of every card or document page, or by pressing Alt+Shift+W.
